Pop YS Live: How a bunch of stressed out, rural librarians came together to Impact 3rd Grade Reading Scores

Feb 8, 2023, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

According to national data, 65% of 4th graders are not proficient in reading. When Lisa Leuck heard this scary statistic, and found that it was also true in her community, she wanted to do something impactful to help. She applied to be part of the Rural Library Fellowship sponsored and funded by Partners for Education at Berea College and Save the Children. She and 21 other rural librarians across the country are now making it their mission raise reading levels. In this presentation, Lisa will describe her project called “Level Up with the Library.” She will show how it was developed and implemented with a strategy that included changes in programs, systems, and policies.

Pop YS Live is a regular webinar series from the State Library which highlights trends and best practices in services and programming for those working in Youth Services librarianship around the state.
